It all started one fateful weekend…..I was on a girl’s trip, my husband was home with the kids. YES, we had a brand new King Headboard in storage that I’d had for months, but, like everything else, deliberating over exactly which mattress to purchase kept it sitting where it was…Well, my husband decided to do some rearranging while I was gone….forcing my hand so to speak! I returned home from my girl’s weekend to find my bed gone – moved to my daughter’s room – and the lone headboard sitting where my bed used to be. Deep breath in…..After my initial bout of unhappiness about my family’s “rearranging” project while I was gone, I had a vision…It was time to renovate this house. Our house is almost 20 yrs old, we’ve been here 7, this was the catalyst for change…
First things first, I wanted to paint over the deep terra-cotta color that had adorned the walls for the last few years. While I loved it, and it looked great with my teal colored sofa, I was ready for a clean slate. I began researching neutral paint colors – primarily whites and gray’s. I had sample paint colors all over my house (As you can tell, decisions are hard for me). These are some of the colors I was playing with…
Then, one day, I came across this article from Southern Living – 10 Tried and True Decorating Rules, and I found my color! A warm white, that definitely isn’t sterile, and can lend itself to any color combination, which is exactly what I wanted!
Southern Living Editor-in-Chief Lindsay Bierman states, When you just want a room to be “warm white,”meaning not too yellow or too peachy or too anything else, then go with Benjamin Moore Ivory White (925). Don’t overthink this—I’ve already done enough agonizing for everyone and can say for sure that it works pretty much anywhere, unless you’re going for museum-like sterility, in which case you’re reading the wrong magazine.
Here’s a quick look at some “Before” pictures of my family room & kitchen. I’m almost finished painting the ceilings. Once it’s done, I’ll share the updates with the new Ivory White color.
I’m going to chronicle my renovation process from start to finish, and will be asking your opinion along the way!
Have you used any of the above paint colors? What are some of your favorites?
Until Next Time, Happy Painting!
